American Mountain-ash is a close relative of Pears, and a very distant relative of Ashes.   American Mountain-ash is named after Ashes because its compound pinnate leaves resemble those of some ashes.   American Mountain-ash bore abundant fruit in 2002 in the Dolly Sods; however, it bore no fruit in some previous years.
