Additional Information:   Yellowwood is native to rich woods and calcareous bluffs in southern Illinois, southern Indiana, Kentucky, and west through North Carolina, northern Georgia, northern Alabama, and Missouri (Fernald 1950, page 888).   This tree has sweetly scented flowers.   People often plant this species outside its range where it may spread on its own by seeds.
