Figures 1-3.   Blue Vervain.

This perennial is native to Nova Scotia and New Brunswick west through southern British Columbia and south through northwestern Florida and east through eastern Tennessee, Missouri, Texas, and New Mexico (Fernald 1050, page 1210).   Its floral vistors include many kinds of bees, butterflies, flies, and wasps.   I have not seen a Blue Vervain plant in nature that is as vigorous as the plant in this butterfly garden.
