  Promethea Moths are native to Maine and southern Quebec through northern Florida west through Minnesota and eastern Texas (Covell 1984, page 51).   Larvae of Promethea Moths consume leaves of apples, ashes, basswood, birches, cherries, lilacs, maples, Sassafras, Spicebush, Sweetgum, and Tulip Tree.   Covell (1984) reports that females come to lights, but males do not.   This female Promethea came to a white sheet illuminated with both a fluorescent and ultraviolet light at about 9 p.m. on a cool night of 65 degrees F on 2 June 2001.   Another name for the Promethea moth is Spicebush Silkmoth.
