Thousands of noctuid caterpillars (perhaps those of a dagger moth species) crawled on the Tow Path and elsewhere during the Spring Wildflower Foray of the Botanical Society of Washington.

This caterpillar resembles the Acronicta oblinita (= Smartweed Caterpillar, Smeared Dagger Moth) (Wagner et al. 1997, page 30).
