I found these cicadas and their parts in my yard in May 1987. They all appear to be Magicicada septendecim. Females have pointed abdomen apices and ovipositors (egg-laying structures), and males have rounded abdomen apices with genital capsules. Some of the cicadas show bird-feeding damage including consumption of missing parts. English Sparrows, Starlings, and other birds feasted on the 1987 cicadas.

Many larvae of Magicicada septendecim crawl up tree trunks and metamorphose into adults on the trunks, branches, and leaves. These larvae are charging up a Tulip Tree.
