Title: Grand Information Page, Chesapeake & Ohio Canal National Historical Park 1, 14 April 2001

Federal legislation established the Chesapeake & Ohio Canal National Historical Park (COCNHP) in 1971. The COCNHP runs 184 miles along the Potomac River from Washington, D.C., to Cumberland, Maryland. Habitats in the Park include the Potomac River, shallow water of the Canal, forests, marshes, and ponds. The Park is in the Coastal Plain Province, the Piedmont Province, Blue Ridge Province, and the Ridge-and-Valley Province. Thousands of beneficial species of animals, archaeans, bacteria, fungi, plants, and protistans live in the Park. This Website presents images of and information regarding some of the denizens of the Park. All parts of the this national park are protected by law, and no unauthorized person should collect anything from the Park.
